Paolo Di Sabatino – An Extraordinary Jazz Pianist & Free MP3s

One of the things I love about the Internet is the generosity of people who volunteer information about common interests. That was the case when I tweeted out I was researching Keith Jarrett for an upcoming blog post. I’ll write that post for sure but the great thing was how others came forward with suggestions of other jazz pianist I might enjoy. Thats how I found about an extraordinary jazz pianist named Paolo Di Sabatino.

Paolo Di Sabatino was born in September, 1970 in Teramo, Italy and, as his web site explains, has dedicated himself exclusively to jazz. With 16 albums to his credit and appearances on another 10 you would think he would be a household name to jazz fans. However Paolo Di Sabatino’s music is not so readily available to us in North America. Again the Internet comes to our rescue. At the time I was writing this blog post Paolo’s album Threeo was going for a cool $71, used, as a rare import on Amazon.com. But thanks to the Internet we can get this album immediately for $8.99 in MP3 format.

Lets see now this one or this one ?

Fortunately, Paolo Di Sabatino has found great success in Japan where he is currently touring, enjoying commercial success and embarking on another artistic endeavor; making videos. Paolo sends this video documenting the fun, music and sights from his current tour in Japan. The song is Dancing with Teddy in English and Paolo explains “I wrote ‘Balla con Teddy’ when I saw my daughter dancing with her teddy bear close to my piano”.

Thanks Paolo, that’s pretty awesome! But wait there’s more! In yet another example of Internet awesomeness and generosity Paolo’ Di Sabatino’s promoters have provided these free MP3 downloads from Paolo’s latest album “The Sweetest Love” for us to enjoy:

Balla con Teddy
L-O-V-E
Glauco’s Mood
Scene 3

I can’t thank Paolo enough for sharing this all with us. Lets show some Internet generosity and spread the word about Paolo Di Sabatino or picking up an MP3 or CD by clicking this link.

2010 Grammy Best Contemporary Jazz Album Nominees

For all you Jazz fans out there, the 2010 Grammy Nominees have been announced demonstrating 2009 was a great year for Jazz. In this post I’m checking out the nominees for “Best Contemporary Jazz Album. In addition to the Jazz requirements the Grammy Association defines a contemporary Jazz album as “containing 51% or more playing time of INSTRUMENTAL tracks” which makes it a pretty nice selection of Jazz without allowing it to stray too far to mainstream FM radio play (other than Jazz programs). You can listen to previews of these albums by clicking the play button on the album covers below. You can check out reviews and more details by clicking the buy now at Amazon.com (don’t worry you don’t have to buy them now – its just what Amazon provides for a link to their site).

So as they say “Without further ado the nominees are“:

Urbanus by Stefon Harris & Blackout, [Concord Jazz]

Sounding Point by Julian Lage, [Emarcy/Decca]

At World’s Edge by Philippe Saisse, [E1 Music]

Big Neighborhood by Mike Stern, [Heads Up International]

75 by Joe Zawinul & The Zawinul Syndicate, [Heads Up International]

And the winner is …… Well we don’t actually know yet but if you believe the Amazon.com star ratings its 75 by Joe Zawinul & The Zawinul Syndicate, [Heads Up International] with 5 stars!

Thanks for coming by. Peace.

Top 10 Classic Jazz Albums

51UVX5HKIiL._SL160_About.com has a nice little blog post with the title “A List of Ten Great Recordings to Start Your Jazz Collection” that I tweeted out earlier but it didn’t have music previews and when I clicked on the links the prices were a little steep.

I thought I’d offer up these links to Amazon.com in the hopes my twitter friends would enjoy it and get some good deals. So here is the list. Thanks to About.com for providing the list and thanks to Amazon.com for the links. Note that you can also click on the buy from Amazon ads here and get a preview of the CD as well as customer reviews. Happy shopping and listening.
